Who are we?

The Goodwins Mills Advent Christian Church is located in Dayton, Maine. We are a growing congregation that wants all that God has for us. We worship in the traditional format, but appreciate all musical genres. Therefore, we use hymns, praise and worship choruses and Christian contemporary music.

We are part of the Maine State Advent Christian Conference, Eastern Regional Association of Advent Christian Churches and the Advent Christian denomination, which was established in 1860. The Maine State Advent Christian Conference is a fellowship of 29 churches throughout the State of Maine. Our churches in Maine range from Presque Isle to South Eliot; from Beals Island to Oxford. The Eastern Regional Association is the fellowship of churches in the geographical area that ranges from Prince Edward Island, Canada, to Pennsylvania (although we do not currently have churches in every province or state). The Advent Christian Denomination is the fellowship of churches throughout the United States and Canada as well as in various countries of Africa, Asia, Europe, Mexico, Oceania, and South America.

The denomination is constantly growing. Within the past three years, we have planted fellowships and churches in Belgium, Great Britain, Namibia and South Africa as well as in some of the major cities of the United States. Currently, a new work is being planted in Providence, RI. We are also exploring the possibility of new church planting in the Congo Republic, Bulgaria and the Eastern Russian States.

Our congregation is also a member of the National Association of Evangelicals, and the Interdependent Church Network of Vision New England. We firmly believe that all the people of God should and must stand as one, working together for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

The primary reason we meet together is to focus our attention on God our Father by exalting His One and only Son, Jesus Christ through the leading of His Holy Spirit—giving Him our true worship and receiving His blessing and inspiration. We hope this is what you experience when you join with us. We consider music our specialty. We believe singing to God is a vital part of worship. The psalmist wrote in Psalm 100:1-2, “Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs” (NIV).

Just as our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ came to serve, we believe it is our responsibility to reach out to others. This applies to both the church community and those outside our fellowship. When we serve, we understand the real meaning of Christianity. Jesus told us, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35, NIV).

We believe that making the Bible the guide of our lives is crucial to living righteously in the modern world. We believe that it is the inspired Word of God, being in its entirety a revelation given to man under Divine inspiration and providence; that is historic statements are correct, and that it is the only Divine and infallible standard of faith and practice.

Finally, we are here to build each other up in the Christian faith, to share each other’s joys as well as sorrows and failures. Nothing can compare to the bonds of Christian love, for Christ is the binding cord that holds us together as one. Each person is appreciated and valued in our community of faith.
